Hello my name is Harry A. Haryanto aka Harry Who, a San Jose and Bay Area Wedding, Family and Newborn Portrait Photographer catering the Bay Area & Northern California, and available for Destination Weddings across the US and Internationally.

I love being around people; so babies, children and adults are all my favorite subjects. I love documenting people's life. Animated and Spontaneous people? I love them. Most of all, I love taking emotional pictures; the ones that give me the goosebumps while taking them behind the camera. Through this process, I also learn new things about life as well ...... about love, passion, friendship, and what makes people tick and sets them alive. So the answer would be yes, I do take Photography pretty seriously.

Nashville Shoout

I have just returned from Digital Wedding Forum Convention in Nashville, where I spent almost a week with the most talented Wedding Photographers from around the world. Amazing speakers such Jerry Ghionis, Cliff Mautner, Kevin Kubota, Gene Higa and Amy Deputy helped photographers like me to recognise our own style and niche. What an experience. I arrived a day before the convention to join with 35 other great photographers to shoot models around Nashville. The group was organized by Nashville's own Commercial, Fashion and Wedding Photographer - Chuck Arlund. We've had a great time shooting and here are some samples from the shootout. It is amazing that we all had different compositions and style. I just love that.

Fred and Esther decided to get married on one Monday morning and I got the call early that morning. In a matter of hours sister's house was transformed to be an intimate Wedding location. Steve's Family Reunion

Majority of my new clients came from my previous client's recommendations. I met Steve through Ashley & Andy whom I photographed many times in the past 2 years. Actually Steve was the Officiant at their wedding. :)

Arnie and Sol - 50th Anniversary - Decathlon Club

Sarah and Gustavo - Coyote Ranch, San Jose

I met Sarah and Gustavo at Elizabeth & Edeeq's Wedding Celebration. A year later is their turn to be married. You can also check out the Engagement pictures that I posted here on the blog a couple of months ago. The lovely celebration started at the St Francis Assisi church in San Jose, then we proceeded to a spacious Coyote Ranch.

Mom was so elated to see her youngest daughter wearing her Wedding dress from 50 years ago.

Steven and Marci

Finally Steven and Marci tied the knot. The great celebration started with a lovely reception at the Five Wounds Church in San Jose, which is one of the most beautiful church I have been to. Then the Wedding party proceeded to Biltmore Hotel in Santa Clara. Marci is a Portuguese descent and Steven is a Filipino descent, so there was a great mixture of ethnic music and dance. I just love happy people, they make the whole world go round. :)

By the way, I will be creating a post on tips for a better Wedding once I got caught up with my current workload. I photographed lots of children, but this little Bodhie kept me on my toes. Bodhie's mom, Emily, claimed that without her rigorous Yoga training, she'd probably have a hard time keeping up with the little Bodhie. But that's what I love about taking kids's pictures, I can also join and play with them. :)

Run Bodhie, Run.... Well, that was my effort to tire him down. :)

Sarah and Gustavo's Engagement Session

The lovely couple Sarah and Gustavo will be married in June 2009. I've met them through Elizabeth and Edeeq whom I photographed at their Weddding last year. And I have met Elizabeth and Edeeq through Vivian whose Wedding I photographed in 2007. I think words of mouth has been the best form of advertisement for me. :)

Anyhow, for their Engagement Session, we headed up to the Evergreen hill. We were so lucky to catch such a beautiful sunset that day. Like many of my clients, their Engagement session will be printed as the Guest Sign-in book.

Now that the Wedding season has officialy started (for me it has started on Jan 3rd this year); I have the opportunity to photograph Jen & Michael and Jen's daughter Dani. Baby Sebastian

Sebastian's parents received a gift certificate for a portrait session with me. Sebastian was about 4 months when these pictures were taken, and he was such a happy baby. His proud parents, Marz and Rosie, certainly were so happy and proud with such a handsome and calm baby. It took us a good 3 hours to do this session. Plenty of patience, feeding, nursing and rocking definitely required. :)

Baby Quetzal

I photographed Ruby and Cesar's Wedding in March 2008, and 10 months later Ruby gave birth to a nice baby boy named Quetzal. In this series of pictures, Quetzal was barely 10 days old. He was such an adorable smiley baby. Of course, like any other babies, we have to stop and wait until he was fed, changed and serenaded. :)

Kim and Nick Pereira - Jan 3rd 2009

Kim and Nick were married on January 3rd, 2009. Their Wedding is my first Wedding for 2009. It was a wonderful Wedding attended by wonderful family and friends.

Since I have injured my knee near Christmas time; I have asked my colleague, a talented fellow photographer, Tommy Wu to help me shoot the Wedding. Since I wasn't able to kneel on the floor, Tommy was there to help to shoot the whole Wedding along with me. We have worked together for many of times, so we were able to synch our work very easily. I'd must say, I really like the idea working with another Photographer, since we can cover the Wedding from the different angles and sides. I also had my lovely assistant, Marilyn, to help me manage those back breaking equipment. :) Thank you guys.

I must say that their Wedding was very moving, at the reception I caught myself shed a few "happy tears". What a way to begin the new year. Thanks again Kim and Nick for choosing me as your Wedding Photographer.

RJ and Annette's Wedding

I have just returned from RJ & Annette's Wedding, which taken place at very cute Hasting's House Garden in Half Moon Bay. It was a lovely, intimate and emotional Wedding attended by 30 of close family and friends. Then it was followed by a reception at a lovely garden in Saratoga.

This month is a very exciting month for me, as I am preparing to cover and document 5 Weddings all over Northern California. It is past midnight right now and I just got home from Santa Cruz to photograph Anthony and Tasha's Wedding. I backed up my memory cards and when I saw these pictures I just could not resist to post them. Of course, there are more coming........ The cloudy background was actually the infamous Santa Cruz fog rolling in at 5 in the early evening. :)

Time to spill some honesty here, I got pretty choked up today while working behind the camera as I photographing Anthony and Tasha on their Wedding. They are just a match made in heaven... literally. I am so glad to be a part of their wonderful Wedding celebration.

Rob and Lisa ESession

Rob and Lisa are getting married at the end of this month. Congratulations once again guys. I can't wait for their Wedding day. It is going to be a full day affair, starting with a Vietnamese Wedding which will be followed by the Church ceremony and the reception at the Hotel Valencia in Santana Row.

Rachel and Dion SF's Banquet

Rachel and Dion got married in Koh Samui and I was there to photographed their beautiful Beach Wedding (please scroll down to see the pictures). I was so lucky to be a Photographer, I got to travel and having a great time at the same time. :)
Anyhow, Rachel and Dion's SF affair started with the traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony, where the couple were adorned with jewelries by their loves ones. Then the party followed by the Chinese Banquet.

The day finally came for Paul and Cindy to tie the knot. They got married at the Golf course in Redwood City. It is one of the most beautiful locations to get married in the bay area. Here are the pictures from their fun Wedding:

Galen, one of the famous San Francisco DJ, delivered the best speech I have ever heard.... In this picture, Galen was mimicking Paul's trademarked dance move...

When lil' sis's speech makes the bride cries, that's one of the signs of a great Wedding Celebration :).

He is from the East Coast and she is from the West Coast, and they got married right in front of their house in the Almaden Valley. On the day, the whole neighbourhood came out to celebrate their joyous union which began at their 150 year old little church.

For the out towners, Eddy put up the signs all the way to their little quiet street...

Close friends and Familly blessed their Union. Did I mention that the Church was cute and tiny? :)

They actually took my words and tied a tall ladder to the tree in front of the church for me to climb on. They even cheered me to go higher..... :)

I have been photographing Sofia since she was in her mom's belly, and I just adore this little lady. She is never short of big smiles and grins. Bad mood? Never seen on her. I was supposed to take pictures at her Baptism but I was already scheduled for another event. But here she is with her beautiful Baptism dress.

Lake Don Pedro Boat Party 2008

Every summer since 1999, I have been attending Boat Party in Lake Don Pedro. It was an idea of 2 crazy English friends of ours. This year, we celebrated the 10th Annual party with a record of 118 people attending. Friends from the bay area and as far as UK and Australia came to join the festivity. Of course, you have to be invited and screened to go to this party. :) You can say this party is our own version of Burning Man. Small and friendly, and every activities are encouraged to be a group effort.

This year, we have 2 costume parties. The first one on Friday was Electroboogaloo theme, and the Red Carpet event on Saturday. I am not quite into the costume party, that's why I chose to be the photographer. :) Another reason that made this year's party so special. Our dear friends, Amy and Kevin, celebrated their 5th anniversary at LDP where they started dating. On the Sunday night, Kevin asked to her marry him and she agreed. So Congratulations guys.

There was never a shortage of Deejays at our LDP boat party. 30 Djs played their music from hip hop, reggae, dubstep, rock, soul to house music. The sky was greyed out from the extreme natural fires in California. At 3PM, the Sun appreared as a perfect circle. It added a certain mood to the picture.

Water pistol is definitely the favorite toy in the lake. Last year, we had over 30 floaties. So surprise surprise, this year everyone decided not to bring theirs..... so we ended up with less than 10 floaties. Arrrgggh. And I knew that was going to happen.... :)

One of our friends, Felicity, came up the Family tree canvas where everyone wrote their names and link their connections to other people. What a great idea.....

Dion and Rachel chose Koh Samui as their Destination Wedding location. Many of their friends flew over from San Francisco, Shanghai, Philipines and Hong Kong to celebrate their big day.

The Wedding took place on the beach at 4PM, it was beautiful and fun. The Weather completely cooperated, considering it was raining hard the day before. And you know how the Asian rain like, they are just like small bullets hitting your face. :)
After the Wedding, they have the reception on the beach with great selections of Thai food. Just before the first dance, Dion and Rachel surprise everyone with the Fireworks display. That was great.

I have been to many places in Asia, but I haven't been to Thailand before. So it was so exciting to be there. The food, the people, the beaches .... everything are so nice. We stayed at Anantara Resort, a beautiful resort on the beachfront. The service at the Hotel were just amazing. When the hotel staffs see you, they always stop with whatever are currently doing and greet you with the Thai's greeting: Sawadi-Ka (in US spelling :). It makes you feel so welcomed. Of course, you have to learn a couple of words to greet them back, like Thank you: Kub Kon Kap. Another useful word to learn is, of course, Thai Massage. Also, please give me something not Thai Spicy but US Spicy. :)

Paul and Cindy E-Session

Paul and Cindy are getting married in San Francisco on August 10th. We decided to roam around the city for their E-Session. Most of these were taken at the Golden Gate Park.
I have known Cindy for almost 18 years and it was nice to see her big smiles in these pictures. Congratulations guys! I will see you in 4 weeks.

Mark and Jeneal Johns, Churchill Manor, Napa Valley

Mark and Jeneal decided to choose the Churchill Manor in Napa for their Wedding location. To match with its 19th century architecture, Mark wore his Edwardian costume complete with the top hat. I just love the interior of this place. I couldn't stopped to take pictures inside.
Afterwards, we all embarked on the Napa Valley Wine Train for the Dinner Reception. Do you know that back in the early 90s, there was a great flood that affected many of the wineries near the railroad track. They claimed the flood originated from the sewer that was operated by the train company. Anywho, the wineries came up with the replacement price for each of the wine tree. I heard it was around 10 to 15k each. Wow.
After Mark and Jeneal's Wedding, I went straight to SFO; parked my car and then embarked on a plane for a 28 hour journey to Koh Samui, Thailand to photograph Dion and Rachel Wedding at Anantara Resort. Tired? Yes, but excited. :)

Off for a month

I will be off to Thailand to shoot a Wedding for Rachel & Dion in Koh Samui. I was introduced to Rachel by Lisa & Robert who are also getting married in October.
After Thailand, I will be off to visit family in Indonesia so I will be out of the country for 4 weeks.

Michelle and Bobby were married in San Jose, and through a friend she booked me for the Getting Ready shots at the hotel De Anza in downtown San Jose. I managed to capture great "getting ready" shots because they were surrounded by the people who love them and that feelings can be captured in the pictures. That's one reason why I am so addicted taking pictures for weddings, to witness how people that are so close to each other express their inner feelings about their friendship, love & happiness. And I am so proud and thankful to be their photographer. I hope that doesn't too corny. :) Anywho, here are many of my favorites pictures from that great day.

These next 4 pictures pretty much sum what I love about Wedding. Earlier that day, Michelle expressed her feeling about wanting me to capture Bobby's face expression when he sees her in her beautiful Wedding dress for the very first time. So I made a plan to hid Michelle in the hotel hallway and asked Bobby to stand to face me and proceeded to pretend that I was taking his pictures. Michelle came approaching ever so slowly & quietly towards Bobby and then..........

In the above picture, you can see how Michelle intensedly hold her breath.
Although Michele grafully touched Bobby's arm, Bobby didn't realize that was his wife to be standing next to him..... You can see tears in the corner of Michelle's eyes.

Then Bobby realized what has just happened and took a couple of steps back and said: "Oh my God, look at you..... you look so beautiful....Oh my God!"

Finally.... the Look of Love as the ever so lovely Dusty Springfield sang it.

Tasha and Anthony ESession

Tasha and Anthony was referred by an old friend's sister in law. That's how most of my clients met me; through friend's recommendation. So it is definitely a great advantage to having plenty of "lovely friends". She contacted me and we immediately clicked on having me as her Wedding Photographer at the Coconut Grove in Santa Cruz. For the engagement session, we went to De Young Museum in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park and then we headed to the Baker Beach. These are my favorites from that Session.

Ashley and Andy - Miners Foundry, Nevada City

I have met Ashley and Andy through the wife of a fellow DJ Jonathan Fowler. Again, having nice friends spreading the words of your Photography business is definitely a blessing. I can't say thank you enough to my great friends.
Ashley have decided on Nevada City in Tahoe as a location. She chose the Miners Foundry as the Wedding location. I haven't been to Nevada City before, but it turned out to be a very cute little city with beautiful old western country character. Many of its alleys has cute old buildings and antique shops. Plus it has great bars and restaurant. I stayed at a very reasonable hotel called Northern Inn; and people in the whole town are very friendly and helpful. I went to a little restaurant called Ike which recommended by the hotel crew, it is known for the Cajun style breakfast. The food there is amazing. That's a shame that I could only stay there for 2 days. As they say, so many restaurants so little time....

Anyway, back to Ashley and Andy...... Ashley and Andy's family came from all over the country: Texas, Virginia, California. They also stayed at the Northern Inn where I was staying and they invited me to join them in their little shindigs there the night prior and after the Wedding. Their family are so amazing especially in welcoming a stranger like me and made me feel so welcomed. Andy's dad and brother got me into the GlenRothes Whisky, one of the best sipping Whiskey around. I have included the picture of the bottle below. That's the wonder of Wedding; I came as a stranger and later came home knowing great people as if I have known them for years. I feel so lucky doing what I love.

These 2 pictures give me the goosebumps everytime I look at them. Andy's mom rocks and in fact, Andy's whole family were fantastic people. They were from all over the States but most of them were from Texas. They are super nice & love to party.....my kind of people. :)
